Cigales is the area
that preserves innumerable traces of a splendid past. Numerous castles mark its municipalities, and
next to them, when the continual warfare in Castile began to wane, the vineyards began to prosper,
especially those belonging to the monasteries. The restaurants and taverns of
the area are also important; some of them were formerly wineries and now
visitors can taste there the best food in the area and rose and red wines with
Cigales designation of origin.

DESIGNATION OF ORIGIN CIGALES: REGULATORY COUNCIL
D.O. Cigales began
to function as such in 1991, although this date is deceptive since the first
vineyards appeared in the X century. The Cigales area that covers the designation
of Origin extends to the northern sector of the Duero depression, 574 km2 on both banks of the Pisuerga River. Vineyards are at an average altitude of 750 metres and cover a great part of the north of the province. More information
